President Kennedy

John F. Kennedy was a strong believer in containing Communism, in his first speech before becoming president he made it clear that he would be supporting president Dwight Eisenhower's policy on the war.

"pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend...to assure the survival and success of liberty".

-John F. Kennedy-

President Kennedy also supported the domino theory that if the head communist was to fall then all the rest around will fall. Then in 1961 kennedy agreed that America should increase in the size of the south vietnamese army from 150,000 to 170,000, an also agreed to and extra 1,000 American military advisors to help train the South Vietnamese Army. Both decisions were not made public because they broke the agreements made at the Geneva Agreement.

The big question every historian and American citizen has now and back then is what if President Kennedy had lived through his term? Most people believe that if President Kennedy was to live his term out that the war wouldn't have happened and he possibly would have pulled the troops out of Vietnam and there would have been no Vietnam War and over 58,000 American lives would have been spared.

-"Communism has never come to power in a country that was not disrupted by war or corruption, or both."
-John F. Kennedy-

John F Kennedys plans, ideas, and thoughts.

When he came in he decided to send over units of Green Berets for extra support, he also gave the south vietnam army a good amount of our american made helicopters. we also taught them how to use them.

J.F.K also wanted to keep us over there until his second term where he would then disengage us, therefore he would not suffer any type of political downfall. J.F.K. was a very bright man and this is why he won the hearts of so many Americans until the day he was shot and killed. This crushed many people and took the U.S. a while to come out of shock and live there lives normally again.
